Introduction
This course is delivered in cooperation with Search and Rescue International (Ltd).
A 3-day workshop offering State SAR authorities wishing to initiate, develop or review their national SAR plan the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in assessing their SAR environment and to construct and publish robust requirements for their SAR stakeholders in the maritime and aeronautical areas of their national SAR system.
The course is a combination of instruction and facilitation.The modules will have references to documents to review, interpret and then apply to case studies to build a bespoke framework to take away and further develop on site.
Course Content
A series of lectures/modules reviewing publications and case studies to construct an outline framework for a national SAR plan.
- State obligations to international conventions
- Assessing the national SAR environment
- Identifiying appropriate SAR stakeholders
- Constructing strategic, tactial and operational reporting levels
- Developing appropriate legislation or national guidance to link the SAR stakeholders
- Considerations for incorporating land SAR (police) into the martime and aeronautical framework
- International cooperation
- Oversight and governance
- The role of a National SAR Committee

To understand the requirements for a national SAR plan and how to review the State SAR system.
Who should take this course
Government departments or agencies responsible for search and rescue i.e. Departments for Transport, Coast Guards, national aviation authorities, competent authorities etc.
Pre-requisites
Participants are kindly requested to bring a laptop to the course to access course material which will only be provided in electronic format.

3 days, starting at 09:00 each day and finishing at approximately 17:00 on the last day.
