The vacancy

The JAA Training Organisation (JAA TO) is looking for a motivated Aviation Solutions Portfolio Executive to join its professional, enthusiastic and ambitious Portfolio Development department at our training center at Schiphol-Rijk.  It concerns a new position for a new unit with the aim of achieving a structured, healthy & sustainable growth of the Learning & Knowledge solutions portfolio.

The portfolio development department consists of 2 units. A Course Development Unit (CDU) with 3 course developers and 1 Team Leader, and the new Unit. Both units are under the management of the Director of Business Solutions & Strategic Partnerships.

As Aviation Solutions Portfolio Executive you will be a solution-and-result oriented practical professional, who is responsible, works independently, is flexible, versatile, and most importantly – is ready to embrace exciting challenges with a positive problem-solving mindset. You will be playing an important role in further developing and managing the JAA TO portfolio of learning & knowledge solutions. That is why we expect you to be able to think at strategic level and have commercial affinity, and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships, display tenacity, creativity and initiative, and be highly organised. If you have experience or at least familiarity with the aviation regulatory domain this will an advantage.

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, liaising with more than 60 qualified external instructors and subject matter experts (freelancers), as well as our partners. You will be required to assess the market needs and industry trends to identify opportunities for new solutions and to improve the existing portfolio. In addition, you will collaborate directly with the marketing & sales teams in connection with client requests and needs. Professional and respectful communication skills are therefore crucial. 

With the knowledge and experience you will build up, you will ultimately be able to support internal questions about the JAA TO portfolio. Eventually, you will become a knowledgeable Focal Point within the organisation, addressing not only existing and potential training courses and services but also industry and market novelties and development.

Job Description

Your main responsibilities, under guidance of the departmental director, include but are not limited to:

Play a leading, proactive role in the development and maintenance of the JAA TO portfolio of learning & knowledge solutions and the portfolio roadmap. This in close cooperation with the department colleagues and with all relevant stakeholders.

  • Stay informed, and up to date, about the developments in the Aviation regulatory market, the market needs and industry trends. This to identify opportunities for new learning & knowledge solutions in order to realise a distinctive portfolio.
  • Conduct market analysis, desk research, investigation etc.
  • Manage and review the JAA TO portfolio aiming at completeness, prevention of overlap/duplicates and consistency.
  • Advise the department director on the development and maintenance of the portfolio, including new product market combinations. This includes Product Lifecycle Management.
  • Provide support by answering in depth questions and if needed delivering presentations about the portfolio.
  • Create value propositions of the courses and learning & knowledge solutions based on the departmental templates.
  • Support Go To Market strategies and implementation plans for new developed solutions, according to the internal procedures for these processes.
  • Report departmental updates (e.g. during staff meetings, for monthly reports etc.) as needed.
  • Develop an effective working relationship with key stakeholders such as the Faculty Managers, aviation regulatory bodies, colleagues in different departments.
  • Be aware of the portfolio of the competition and recommend any updates to the JAA TO portfolio.
  • Participate in (international) conferences, meetings etc. when applicable.
  • Provide feedback to the department director to assist in the annual portfolio management development plans.
  • As part of the portfolio development department, be the backup to the course development colleagues when needed. This includes obtaining applicable training & certifications, sponsored by JAA TO.

Your Profile

  • Minimum University Degree (international Bachelor’s degree).
  • At least 2-3 years’ proven experience within a commercial organisation with portfolio development and course development.
  • Have the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships, display tenacity, creativity and initiative and be highly organised with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken. Dutch fluency is a strong preference.
  • Experience with the ADDIE-methodology is an advantage.
  • Experience with creating high quality Value Propositions is a requirement.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management. This includes conducting market and product researchand high level skills in working with various information resources, technologies and channels.
  • Affinity with the Aviation Environment and knowledge of the regulatory framework is highly recommended.
  • Efficient skills with navigating through large amounts of reading materials, and compiling relevant summaries and reports afterwards in a timely manner.
  • Innovative and technical-oriented, able to transform static materials into engaging interactive activities.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to prioritise work without the risk of quality deterioration.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented, methodical and stress resistant.
  • Presentable and professional attitude.
