ICAO TPSC/13 meets at GISS to discuss TPP activity on global and regional levels
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Seoul, Republik of Korea. 29 May 2023 – On day zero of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) 2023, ICAO TRAINING/GAT and TRAINAIR PLUS Steering Committee (TPSC) Members come together for the TPSC/13 Meeting discussing the latest experiences of TRAINAIR PLUS Programme (TPP) facilitation activities on global and regional level, as well as learn about the newest ICAO rebranding initiative.
As TPSC Chair, Paula V. de Almeida (JAA TO CEO) welcomes fellow TPSC Members and around 50 TPP Members joining as observers. Almeida is heading the TPSC/13 alongside Laura Camastra, newly appointed Chief of ICAO TRAINING, and Pedro Avella, ICAO Training Business Development.
The meeting starts with ICAO operations updates before reviewing the Amsterdam TPSC/12 Meeting recommendations. The list of actionable proposals worked out during the previous meeting last November, addresses the training challenges common across the various regions of the TPP community. In its advisory role to ICAO, the TPSC communicates these challenges to the UN body which in turn produces a progress report for TPSC/13. In summary of the implementation efforts by ICAO, close to 50% of the proposed items have been completed. A positive sign of ICAO/TPSC/TPP working relationships.
In the afternoon session, the regional sub-group leaders identified from TPSC/12 present on the coordination of training needs and scheduling of upcoming ICAO training activities. The objective is to analyse and find mechanisms optimising the yearly global calendar of ICAO training products with training demands from the TPP community and tackling delivery issues in the regions.
In addition, as part of the larger Technical Cooperation Bureau's (TCB) rebranding strategy, ICAO informs TPSC and TPP Members of its new name: ICAO TRAINING (formerly GAT) housing all training course-, and TPP-related matters.
Chair Almeida summarises: "On behalf of the TPSC and TPP Members, I want to thank ICAO TRAINING for their swift action and collaboration on the acknowledgement of the proposals. To the TPSC and TPP Members, this day was again spurred by good engagement, productive discussion and belief in the merits of the [Trainair Plus] programme which are promising signals for the future of aviation training."
TPSC Members present during TPSC/13 are JAA Training Organisation (JAA TO), Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS/South Africa), Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA/Singapore), East African School of Aviation (EASA/Kenya), Airports Council International (ACI/Canada), Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile (ENAC/France), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT/Nigeria), Incheon Airport Aviation Academy (IAAA/South Korea), Republican State-owned Enterprise “Kazaeronavigatsia” (Kazakhstan), Academia Superior de Ciencias Aeronáuticas (ASCA/Dominican Republic), and Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation (SACA/GACA/Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
