Are you an experienced, competent and energetic professional looking for the next-level function as Financial Manager? The JAA Training Organisation (JAA TO) is looking for a full-time Financial Manager & Business Controller for its office in Schiphol-Rijk, the Netherlands. JAA TO is a small organisation with 20 staff members. As the manager of the Finance Department (which has two staff members, including the Manager himself) you possess solid leadership skills to support, coach, motivate, inspire and provide guidance to the Department's business decisions as well as team members. Furthermore, as Business Controller, you perform very accurate work and have an eye for detail. You also have sufficient knowledge of Dutch tax regulations (Note: knowledge of foreign and European tax regulations is an advantage). You have experience with preparing financial statements, annual accounts, budgets as well as coordinating external financial audits. Additionally, as a member of the Management Team (MT) you are critical, analytical, and committed to acting as financial adviser to the Director and the organisation. You are accurate and structured, professional, respectful and dress presentable.

 

Main job responsibilities:

As a member of the Management Team (MT):

  • Actively contribute to the financial and strategic decisions of the company. This includes providing proactive financial advice to the management of the organisation and determining the yearly/quarterly/monthly budget.
  • Responsible for the capture, analysis and reporting of the monthly closures in which you are highly analytical and critical regarding the contribution margins, balance sheet, cash flow and profit and loss account.
  • Financial contact point inside and outside the organisation (including for the Director, the Supervisory Board, the external auditors and advisers, the insurance and pension companies, salary administration and of course the colleagues, clients, service providers etc.)
  • Responsible for making the forecast, including cash flow forecast, and budgets.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the financial statements and coordinating the audit by external auditors.
  • Responsible for all foreign and domestic VAT declarations and advice on complex (Dutch) tax and compliance issues. If needed, there are external (tax) advisers available for consulting.
  • Responsible for all financial processes and internal control procedures.
  • Initiate and negotiate contracts with external service providers.

As a Team Manager:

  • Be responsible for the finance and facility department and provide guidance to both the Controlling Executive and the Facility Coordinator. Have regular meetings with these team members, be interested and disciplined in spending weekly time to discuss their tasks and responsibilities, challenges, actions, career development paths etc.
  • Conducting weekly 1:1’s and team meetings, building career development plans.
  • Supporting, coaching, motivating team members with a hands-on attitude.

Collaboration with the Sales and Marketing Team:

  • Process and analyse daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/ yearly financial data effectively to help sales leadership make data-driven decisions.
  • Produce accurate sales forecasting regularly and on ad-hoc requests to sales leadership. Track long term sales data from CRM systems, recognize geographical trends in the market and work very closely with sales leadership to build strategies for new regional growth opportunities. (Salesforce experience is a plus)
  • Implement new technologies as needed to support marketing and sales teams.

Professional requirements & competencies:

  • University Master's Degree: business, controller or accounting/finance.
  • Minimum 10 years experience as a (business) controller including a minimum of 5-7 years as a manager
  • Experience in financial reporting, processes and analyzing figures
  • Experience with providing financial advice to management and sales team
  • Sufficient knowledge of VAT and able to identify tax/VAT issues (and consult advisers when necessary)
  • Working knowledge of pension schemes
  • Able to identify and oversee financial and fiscal risks and strategise suitable solutions
  • Experience with Exact Online is required
  • Familiarity with databases and sales software (Salesforce is a plus)
  • Structured, analytical, respectful, detailed-oriented and accurate with a professional and presentable attitude.
  • Experienced in stakeholder management and collaborating with cross functions including a good rapport with the Sales & Marketing Manager
  • Excellent people manager, experienced in establishing and structuring career and growth paths for the department members
  • Ability to support, motivate and coach team members
  • Proactive, persistent and a team player; also able to solve problems and successfully negotiate
  • Fluent in English and Dutch, both written and spoken; preference for Dutch native who is experienced with working with local tax legislations
  • Presentable and professional attitude. Punctual and reliable
  • Respectful and supportive of company policies
